In the sports world, having a one-star player does not necessarily mean your team will be successful. It’s a concept that those in team sports and the cybersecurity industry are very familiar with. When it comes to protecting your network, there is no silver bullet. No single security control will be able to detect and stop every potential attack method.
Like building a successful sports team, protecting a network requires layers of depth. Effective detection capabilities at every level of the network are critical, and, like good teammates, it is essential that those technologies not only play well together but that they also serve different functions.
The right complementary technologies can create a force multiplier effect, enabling a boost in detection performance, intelligence gathering, and automation of incident response capabilities that would otherwise be cumbersome to perform manually.
Like talented athletes, tools like endpoint detection and response (EDR), Intrusion Detection System (IDS), and deception technology are all individually valuable, but their true value is in how they complement each other. In today’s modern threat environment, cybersecurity truly is a team sport.
