ISE Award Winners Warm Our Hearts
By: Carolyn Crandall
It was heartening for us to see the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) nominated for “Project of the Year” in the Information Security Executive® Award competition for ISE West region. This awards program recognizes information security executives and their teams who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in risk management, data asset protection, regulatory compliance, privacy, and network security.
DHCS has deployed deception technology for early threat detection of attacks on their critical assets. Government breaches often involve the theft of personally identifiable information (PII) data, such as names, Social Security numbers, and birthdates, the loss of this information typically has a greater impact than other types of breaches. The deployment of deception gives DHCS an additional line of defense against attackers seeking to steal their high-value information.
We would also like to congratulate the winners and finalists in this year’s awards program, which were announced on August 23 at the ISE West Executive Forum and Awards 2017, held in San Francisco.
ISE named Walmart’s “OneOps Security Framework” project as the ISE West Project of the Year. Walmart operates one of the largest cloud environments and leverages the open source tool OneOps to manage applications and operating systems. The OneOps Security Framework is an integration that applies security best practices and configurations to any application or operating system automatically at deployment to save time while meeting security and compliance requirements.
Ajit Gaddam, Senior Director and Chief Security Architect of VISA, was selected as the Information Security Executive of the Year Award winner. He has an established track record of developing risk-driven security programs and delivering solutions that support critical business initiatives. Ajit is a technologist, serial entrepreneur, and a security expert specializing in machine learning, cryptography, big data security, and cybersecurity. He also co-founded two startups with successful exits, and is a prolific inventor in disruptive technologies with more than 50 patents.
David Evans, Systems Security & Research Officer of San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools was honored during the event as the 2017 ISE West People’s Choice Award. This award represents the nominee who best exemplifies information security leadership as voted on by his peers in information security.
We would also like to congratulate the finalists in the awards program, These winners include Pritesh Parekh, Vice President and Chief Security Officer at Zuora; Seagate® for its next generation single sign-on platform, and Western Union®, for its mobile threat defense project.
These winners recognize the importance of deploying and continuously improving an adaptive security infrastructure. Traditional perimeter defenses are an important part of that infrastructure, but can have gaps. ThreatDefend complements an organization’s existing infrastructure by accurately detecting in-network threats that by have bypassed traditional perimeter defenses and provides scalable, continuous threat management for user networks, data centers, cloud, IoT, ICS-SCADA and POS environments. It is a comprehensive suite of high-interaction, deception-based decoys and dynamic lures that makes the network a trap for cyber attackers.
We congratulate this year’s west coast ISE Awards winners.
