Founder of the Honeynet Project joins the company, applying deep industry knowledge towards continuous advancements in deception technology
FREMONT, Calif. – January 29, 2019 – Attivo Networks®, the award-winning leader in deception for cybersecurity threat detection, today welcomes Lance Spitzner, a pioneer for deception and cyber intelligence and advocate for cybersecurity awareness, as the newest member of its Advisory Board. He will accompany current board members, Marshall Heilman and Bill Ender in further enhancing Attivo Networks deep expertise in addressing ever-evolving cyberthreat challenges.
Spitzner is currently the Director of Security Awareness at SANS Institute and brings over 20 years of expertise in cyberthreat research as well as security architecture awareness and training to Attivo. He is the founder of The Honeynet Project, one of the first volunteer cybersecurity organizations dedicated to learning the tools, tactics, and motives of global cyber actors, and is considered a pioneer in the fields of honeypots and cyber intelligence. Spitzner’s work with honeynets built the foundation for deception for cybersecurity and has since proven to have made a significant impact in countering cyberattacks.

Spitzner has published three security books, consulted in over 25 countries, and helped over 350 organizations build programs to manage their human risk. Prior to information security, he served as an armor officer in the Army’s Rapid Deployment Force and earned his MBA from the University of Illinois.
